British Pop Band Duran Duran first achieved success and popularity in the 1980s off the back of the modern youth culture known as the New Romantics and since have continued to be a significant force in the music industry ever since.
Duran Duran was formed in Birmingham in 1978 with members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Andy Taylor, and Roger Taylor with the name Duran Duran being inspired by the villainous character Durand-Durand from the 1968 science fiction film Barbarella. Their early career was spent playing local clubs and pubs until the band signed with EMI Records in 1980.
1981 saw Duran Duran release their debut album named “Duran Duran”, which included the hit songs “Planet Earth” and “Girls on Film”. The album was a huge success both critically and commercially and was the launch pad that helped establish Duran Duran as one of the most popular bands of the new wave era.
