Funko really has given Star Wars fans a treat with this new Star Wars: R2-D2 and R5-D4 2-pack Funko Pop! Vinyl Figures which is part of the Star Wars Celebration 2023 Exclusive.
The two droids R2-D2 and R5-D4 have been fan-favorite Star Wars characters since the beginning of the franchise. R2-D2 is the little blue and white droid, the sidekick of C3-PO, and the adopted droid of Luke Skywalker. Who would have thought that R2 would go on to be such a huge hero?
R5-D4’s story arc in the franchise was all geared around a malfunction, had this not occurred it would have been R5 instead of R2 teaming up with Luke.
Now the pair are together again as they first were in Star Wars: A New Hope and ready to be sold by the Jawas.

The R5-D4 unit was part of the R5 astromech droid line, which was known for being unpredictable and often dysfunctional. But it wasn’t until Star Wars: A New Hope that R’s true importance was revealed in the story.
Uncle Owen and Luke Skywalker were in the market for a new astromech and R5-D4 was initially selected over R2D2 and purchased from the Jawas, that was until he malfunctioned forcing Luke to switch out R5 for R2.
Little did we know that R2 was carrying the secret message from Princess Leia and holding the secret plans for the Galactic Empires Death Star.
But more recently the new series of “The Mandalorian” has given the R5-D4 unit a chance at redemption with the droid accompanying Din Djarin and Grogu on Mando’s journey to Mandalore in “Chapter 18.”
