Today I am excited to bring you the Funko Pop Star Wars Retro Series to the pages of Action Figure Geek. Here is everything that you need to know about these Stars Wars Retro Funko Pops, including the best online retailers, shopping guide, and accompanying images.
Star Wars is a huge franchise within Funko. There are a ton of really cool Star Wars Funko’s and we are not just talking about Pops from the movies because there is now a stack of great Disney + Star Wars TV shows giving us new vinyl figures. The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan, and the Book of Boba Fett are spin-offs that come to mind. And let us not forget the Star Wars animation Pops like the Bad Batch Funko Pops. So where do these new Funko Pop Star Wars Retro Series figures fit into the scene and do we even need them?
Do we even need them? Yes is the answer, especially when they look as cool as they do. They have been given all new packaging as you can see below and will really stand out in your Star Wars Funko collection and your wider collection. Each figure is now multiple shades of its base color. Darth Vader for example is multiple shades of blue with red and orange hues for eyes. They also have now been given a much more retro comic book look and feel.

Star Wars – Darth Vader (Mustafar) Art Series Funko Pop
A great alternative to the Darth Vader Retro Series Funko Pop is the Star Wars – Darth Vader (Mustafar) Art Series Funko Pop. I really like this Pop, more so than the Darth Vader Retro Series Funko Pop.
The Art Series Darth Vader just looks so good. The yellow and orange mixed with the black of Darth’s uniform give it a lava, magma effect that is just awesome and makes the Art Series Pop a Funko that I want. The Art series Darth Vader is a Walmart Exclusive but also available as a Special Edition.
570 Chewbacca Retro Series Funko Pop
The Retro Series gives us a great version of Chewbacca but if you have Chewwy then you need Han Solo as well.
The Chewbacca Retro Series figure is available as a Target Exclusive and a Special Edition.
Star Wars Celebration Convention Exclusive Funko Pop
A great alternative to the Retro Chewbacca would be the Star Wars Celebration Convention Exclusive Funko Pop shown in the image below.
571 R2-D2 Retro Series Funko Pop
When C3P0 is included in a Star Wars Funko Pop Series you have to have R2D2 in that series as well and vice versa.
Available as a Target Exclusive and as a Special Edition.
572 Ben Kenobi Retro Series Funko Pop
It’s been a big year for Obi-Wan Funko Pops as we have already had the Obi-Wan Disney+ Show Funko Pops. This Retro version gives us a much older Ben Kenobi. His Jedi robes are very purple along with his saber which is more like the color of Mace Windu’s lightsaber. The whiteness of hIS hair and beard make him look a lot like George Lucus rather than Alec Guinness.
The Ben Kenobi Retro Series Funko Pop is a Target Exclusive and also available as a Funko Special Edition.
573 Emperor Palpatine Retro Series Funko Pop
This really is a great version of Emperor Palpatine. The coloring really brings out the cragginess of his face giving him a really shadowed look.
His force lightning has also changed from bluish purple to orange.
573 Emperor Palpatine is available as a Target USA Exclusive and a Worldwide Funko Special Edition. This Pop has the new updated Funko Special Edition Sticker that is an improvement of the previous version.

I really am a fan of all of these Pops in the Retro Series the all-new coloring of each figure brings a fresh new look to them. The packaging on the other hand, well I am not such a fan of that. Perhaps these are Pops that should really come out of the box when displaying them.
It really is going to be interesting to see just how far Funko goes with developing this range of Pops. There is a seemingly endless and ever-growing number of characters that can be incorporated into the series.
Obvious additions would be Princess Leia, Boba Fett, and Darth Maul.
Are you a fan of these new Funko Pop Star Wars Retro Series Funko Pops?
Am I right when I say that we do need them and that they are a great addition to the series?

I have all of these now and I love them! I went to Target yesterday and they still had a few Palpatines and a few Chewbaccas left BUT I saw the strangest thing. Next to the price tags on the shelf for those two was another price tag for a “SW Retro Dagobah Yoda” Pop. What!? That doesn’t exist.
Yes, they are great Pops. I like that they look so different from the other Star Wars Pops. It doesn’t surprise me that you have seen price tags for a Retro Dagobah Yoda” Pop if you look at the numbering of the series your see there is a gap in the numbers…
453 Luke Skywalker
454 C3P0
455 Stormtrooper
456 Darth Vader
570 Chewbacca
571 R2-D2
572 Ben Kenobi
573 Emperor Palpatine
could these be the Pop numbers for another Star Wars Retro Wave including Yoda?
Which other Pops are you collecting?
