Magneto, whose real name is Max Eisenhardt made his comic-book debut in X-Men #1 in 1963. Magneto is a powerful mutant with the incredible power to manipulate magnetic fields and control metal objects with his mind.
He is an intriguing and compelling character who has been both a villain and an anti-hero throughout his comic book history. He suffered horrible, traumatic experiences during the Holocaust, where he and his family endured unimaginable suffering, that deeply influenced his view of the world.
Magneto believes in mutant superiority and, fights for mutant domination over humanity seeing this outcome as a way to prevent the mistakes of the past from repeating.
Magneto is the arch-nemesis of his old friend Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X), the leader of the X-Men. Professor X represents the dream of peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans, but Magneto, due to his past traumas, sees humanity as a threat to mutant survival.
This ideological clash forms the basis of their relationship and the broader themes of the X-Men comics.
