Fans of the new Ahsoka series will know that there is a new Mandalorian warrior in town and she goes by the name Sabine Wren but who is Sabine Wren?
Who is Sabine Wren?
The Mandalorian fans will remember Sabine Wren from her live-action debut in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Now she is big news in the new Ahsoka series as Ahsoka’s Padawan.
For a long time, fans of the animated Star Wars Rebels have seen Sabine as one of the coolest new Star Wars characters from the Disney era, and with very good reason as she is one of a number of very strong female heroes currently gracing movie and tv screens.
Sabine Wren is a true Mandalorian warrior who became an influential revolutionary leader during the time of the Empire’s dark sadistic reign of terror.
As well as a warrior Sabine is also known for her love of art and, more specifically for her keen interest in spray paintings. But the most important part of the Sabine Wren story is how she acquired the Darksaber the sacred weapon of her people on the planet Dathomir and wielded the weapon for a period of time under the guidance of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus.
Before Sabine became a Rebel she first spent time as a cadet at the Imperial Academy of Mandalore. It was during this period that Sabine started to develop her engineering and munitions skills.
Sabine Wren – Early History
Sabine Wren was born 21 BBY, close to the end of the Clone Wars. She grew up for a period in Mandalore but really saw Clan Wren’s home of Krownest to be her true home world. Her beskar steel armor was forged with her family, with her helmet being inherited from the Nite Owls while her artistic streak was inherited from her father, artist Alrich Wren.
She joined the Imperial Academy on Mandalore and was instrumental in building the Arc Pulse Generator, a super weapon with the ability to literally melt Mandalorian armor. The Empire took full control of the technology leading the Empire to take control of Mandalore leaving Sabine wracked with guilt.
The Age of the Enpire
Sabine was recruited by Jedi Kanan Jarrus after he survived Order 66 and together they put together a rebel cell that also included Hera Syndulla, “Chopper,” the astromech droid, and the Lasat warrior Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios.
It was two years before the Battle of Yavin that Sabine discovered the Darksaber on the planet of Dathomir during a fierce encounter with the Sith Lord Maul, Wren came across the Darksaber on the cursed planet of Dathomir. At first, Sabine wanted nothing to do with the Mandalorian weapon but was talked into using the saber by Fenn Rau, a Mandalorian Protector, and Jarrus Kanan in the hope of uniting Mandalore against the Empire.
Sabine told of the Empire’s treachery and wrongdoings leading to civil war on Mandalore. The war ended with the death of Imperial Viceroys Gar and Tiber Saxon and saw the destruction of the Arc Pulse Generator the terrible weapon that Sabine created for the Empire.
Sabine saw a good leader in Bo-Katan Kryze passing on the Darksaber and for her to lead Mandalore. Bo-Katan Kryze Kryze’s rule however proved to be short-lived, however, after the Empire launched a devastating counterattack on Mandalore.
Sabine and the other Ghost crew members returned to Lothal, Ezra Bridger’s home planet. It is at this point in the timeline that Ezra vanished into hyperspace alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn‘s star destroyer bringing us to the Ahoska series timeline.
