The Beginner’s Guide to Funko Pop Figures: Everything You Need to Know
Funko is an American company that manufactures licensed pop culture collectables.
They are most known for producing licensed vinyl figures and bobbleheads. In addition, Funko also produces licensed plush, action figures, Funko Pop Pins and electronic items such as USB drives, lamps, and headphones.
Funko was founded in 1998 by Mike Becker. The company was originally conceived as a small project to create various low-tech, nostalgia-themed toys.
Funko’s first manufactured bobblehead was of the restaurant advertising icon Big Boy.
For more details on the Funko company, you can refer to the Funko Wikipedia page
Funko Freddy Unmasked: An Introduction to the Character Behind the Brand
Freddy Funko is the official mascot of Funko Pop Vinyls.
There are a number of vinyls that have been made depicting Freddy in character guise from many movie franchises and TV shows with many variants of the Funko Freddy produced.
The Freddy Funko Pop Vinyls are often made in very limited numbers. You can get your hands on these limited edition Freddy Pops by applying for the Funko membership, Fundays during San Diego Comic-Con will normally have exclusives or occasionally from good online retailers.
You will also find him heavily marked up in price on eBay auctions due to their highly collectible nature.
Below you can see an example of a very collectible Freddy Funko Pop the Social Media Funko Freddy. This new Social Media Freddy is sure to become well sought after as he is only available through social media giveaways and from the Funko Funkast team and conventions and events.
So now you know a little about the company and who Freddy Funko is, it’s now time to get down to why you are really reading this article and talk about the Rare Gems, the 20 Must-Have Funko Pop Vinyls for Collectors.

Headless Ned Stark
I have written about the Headless Ned Stark Pop before. Being a huge Game Of Thrones fan, Headless Ned is one figure that I would love to own. And despite being incredibly rare he is still available to buy on Amazon.
Headless Ned Stark will cost you $2999.99 via Amazon that is currently £2169 UK pounds before you factor in import tax! It sounds a bit like the seller doesn’t really want to sell and is giving a wish list price. The real value is estimated to be between $1000-$1500 which is still a hefty price tag.
Everyone following Game of Thrones was horrified to see Ned Stark executed. It was an iconic moment, and one that came to define Game of Thrones, a moment that, as it turns out, would be immortalized in Pop form.
Headless Ned Stark was released in 2013 and was a San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive with just 1008 figures released.
Following the end of the Game of Thrones series, finding one of these exclusive Pops to add to your collection is becoming increasingly hard.

My Favourite Game Of Thrones Funko Pop Vinyls
Loki (The Avengers)
Loki is a shapeshifter so it only seems right that he got the full Funko Pop makeover with this version of Loki appearing as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive in 2012.
Funko has produced an extensive line of movie-based Avengers Pops, covering the likes of Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America along with the villains. Loki appeared at the SDCC a few weeks after The Avengers hit movie theatres.
If you are looking to add Loki to your collection then he is going to set you back roughly $1200 or so and that’s not a bad return on investment if you managed to get one at SDCC.
Star Wars Shadow Trooper
It only seems right that one of the rarest Funko Pop Vinyl figures should come from the Star Wars franchise and here we have the San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Shadow Trooper from 2011.
This really is one Pop figure that you want to cross off your Star Wars Funko Pop list
There was a very limited run of this vinyl figure with only 480 being distributed so good luck with finding one of these.
If you want to add this bad boy to your Pop collection then currently set you back around $1500.
Green Lantern
No DC collection is complete without one of the rarest Funko Pop Vinyls, the Glow In The Dark Green Lantern from the San Diego Comic-Con in 2010.
This glow-in-the-dark version of the Green Lantern is super rare with only 240 of these vinyl Pop figures ever being released to the collecting public.
If you want to acquire one today it will probably cost you $1500 or so.
Hang on to this little guy if you have one 😉
There are a number of versions of the Green Lantern in the Pop Universe but one of my favourites (well not strictly the Green Lantern) is Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory in his Green Lantern T-Shirt.
If you want the Sheldon Cooper Pop he is still available on Amazon and will cost you around $100.
Superman and Harley Quinn
We take a break now from SDCC exclusives and feature two Silver Hot Topic exclusive figures. Here we have DC’S Superman and Harley Quinn. These Hot Topic exclusives that have never officially hit the shops, they were given away to Funko staff who have done well in their jobs. These Pops are super rare with only 144 pieces being produced for each.
Despite their rarity, they are surprisingly not the most valuable Funko Pops. You can expect to pay around $500 for the silver Harley Quinn and $700 for the Man of Steel Silver Superman.
Alex Delarge from – Clockwork Orange
There are 2 versions of the original Alex Delarge Pop Vinyl, not to be confused with the rerelease regular figure.
There were only 24 figures made due to licensing issues, 12 normal and 12 glow-in-the-dark chase variants.
These guys were sold off to collectors and are among the rarest Funko Pop Vinyls there are. Both have been sold on the open market with the regular Alex going for $2500 with the chase variant going for… wait for it… a whacking great $13000. WOW 😉
Mr Incredible – Blue Suit
Some of the rarest Pop figures come from Disney shows and movies. Disney Pop figures are some of the most collectables and sought after.
The first of the Disney Pop figures that I am going to feature is Mr. Incredible in his Blue Suit from the Incredibles. The blue suit is the costume that Mr. Incredible (Bob Parr) wears during the introduction of the movie before he has to retire as a SuperHero.
For the majority of the movie after this, he wears his more recognizable red suit.
The Blue Suit Mr. Incredible Disney Pop figure first appeared back in 2011 and was a San Diego Comic-con exclusive Pop Vinyl with only 480 pieces being released to the public.
You can expect to pay around $500 for this exclusive Pop Vinyl and that may sound like an expensive Pop figure but could still prove to be a bargain with the release of the second Incredibles movie due in June 2018.
Aladdin – Genie – Metallic Blue
The metallic versions of any Pop Vinyl are often worth many times that of its standard release figure. And the San Diego Exclusive Pop Vinyl of the Genie from Aladdin in metallic blue is no different. This little guy appeared at SDCC in 2013 with an exclusive release of just 480.
If you want one of these Disney Pop figures then he will set you back a cool $600 – $700. Now that may sound like a lot but bear in mind that the regular blue version can be snapped up on Amazon for around $400
If you want one then go for the Metallic blue exclusive, he is way cooler.
Dumbo with Clown Face And Gold
There are a number of Pop versions of the Disney Dumbo vinyl.
But the ones that everyone wants are and this will be no surprise, the San Diego Comic-con Exclusive Funko Pop Vinyls and particularly the Dumbo Clown Face Disney Pop figures
There were only 48 pieces released of both the Clown Face and Gold versions and 480 made of the metallic blue. So wait for it you can expect to pay a staggering $2500 for the Gold version and a mind-blowing $3000+ for the clown face Disney SDCC Exclusive. The metallic blue exclusive comes in at between $300 and $500.
Star Wars Darth Maul Hologram and Flocked Chewbacca
So back to Star Wars Pops and here are two vinyls that you definitely want to cross off your Star Wars Funko Pop list. First up we have the Sith Lord Darth Maul, here in his Glow In The Dark Hologram guise.
This version of Darth Maul was, you guessed it an SDCC exclusive from 2012. There were only 480 pieces offered to Comic-con visitors. Those who snapped one up did well because Darth Maul is now worth an “Impressive, most impressive” $2000. Congratulations on crossing him off your Star Wars Funko Pop list.
Moving on to the Flocked Chewbacca, well this guy has more of a furry feel than conventional smooth vinyl.
The flocked Chewwy was released back in 2011 as a San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive with a very limited run of just 480 pieces released to Comic-Con visitors. This is one figure that any Pop fan would love to cross off their Funko Pop List. If you want one of these guys today then be prepared to pay $1200 upwards.
Game Of Thrones – White Walker (Glow In The Dark)
This glow-in-the-dark White Walker is one of the most collectible and rarest Pop Vinyls to be released from Game Of Thrones. He can’t compete in value to the Headless Ned Stark but he is still one that we would love to cross off our Funko Pop list.
The White Walker Glow In The Dark was released back in 2013 as an HMV Exclusive. You can pick up your very own Glow In The Dark White Walker Pop for $600.
Silver Batman
The Silver Batman was released in 2015 as an exclusive to Hot Topic as an employee reward, with just 108 released. He is now estimated to now be worth around $1600.
Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones is debatably one of the most popular characters in all of pop culture. Released as recently as 2016, this Pop figure was exclusive to the Funko booth at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Indy is not one of the most valuable Pops out there, you can pick him up for just over $200 but expect his value to rise. Indy is a very good buy at this price.
There is another version of Indy that was released as a Disney Parks Exclusive that I really love.
You can see him below.
I had to include him as Indy is just so damn cool!
This version of Indy is still available to buy on Amazon.
Games of Thrones Khal and Khaleesi 2 pack
So after our Indy bonus figure detour, we go back to back to Game Of Thrones and Season 1 for our next addition to my 20 Of the rarest Funko Pop Vinyls. Here we have the Khal and Khaleesi Funko Pop 2 pack. These guys were released in 2014 and were exclusive to ThinkGeek.
Khal and Khaleesi are reported to now be worth around $200-$300 so not the most valuable but still very rare and hard to find and a great 2 pack to cross of your Game of Thrones Funko Pop List.
Metallic Blue Batman
The Metallic Blue Batman is another San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, this time releases in 2010 with just 480 pieces released.
If you want this version of the Caped Crusader then you can expect to pay upwards of $1000
Freddy Funko Ghost Rider
So finally we come to number 20 (well 21 if you count the bonus Indy) of our 20 of the rarest Funko Pop Vinyls. We introduced you to Freddy Funko right at the start of this article and here he is closing my 20 of the rarest Funko Pop Vinyls. Here we have Freddy Funko as Marvel’s Ghost Rider.
This version of Freddy was released in 2013 as another exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con with a very limited 96 being released.
There are quite a number of very rare exclusives of Freddy available. You can find him depicting Boba Fett, there is also a Frankenberry glow-in-the-dark pop. All the exclusives and even the chases go for big money.
A Ghost Rider Freddy is not the most valued coming in at around $1600 but he is my favorite so he makes my list 😉

Well for one, I wish I had started to collect Pops a long time ago.
Secondly, if you live in the San Diego area then get to the Comic-Con and buy, buy and buy some more and lastly that Funko Pops are the hot items to collect, no doubt about it. They are a collector’s dream. They are always current and relevant. And they are not limited to one movie franchise or TV show like other figures. As a new blockbuster movie is released everyone is looking for the Pop versions of the characters.

HI there
Will they be releasing more limited edition ones in the future, and how does one get informed on these releases?
Furthermore, will they be released online, or does one have to be at a physical comic con?
Regards
Roopesh
Best way to find this info is to follow Funko on Twitter, you can also then win limited edition figures as well.
